Well, I've finally gotten everything moved in and set up. Running a Stable is hard! So many things to think of and do... More than ever I wish my grandfather was still alive to advise me. The three horses I brought in from the mainland seem to be settled, although they aren't getting along very well with the mare here... I guess she's used to being alone, poor thing. Definitely not natural for a horse. Hopefully she'll be in a better mood soon.
Grandfather's old groom and vet have agreed to stay on through the change of ownership, and my childhood friends, Laura and Zach, now both equestrian people, have been hired on! I'm fortunate to be surrounded by close friends and people I can trust. I surely won't fail with their help.
I have found a stray cat lurking about the barns, chasing mice. I've decided to name him Dapper, for the tuxedo he was born wearing! He and Princess, my dog, seem to get along fine. The horses like them too, save for Gypsy, who really doesn't like much of anyone, the grumpy thing. She bit Princess the other day, I'll need to make sure I keep her on-leash when Gypsy is around. I really hope I can cure the sourness of that mare. I feel it's mostly from lack of handling that makes her so- I don't think she's truly nasty, though only time will tell.
There's a herd of wild horses that like to roam the beach hereabouts, I caught the stallion making eyes at my Ariel the other day. Note to self: Fortify fences.
Princess is whining to be let out, it's about time I take her on her walk. I think I'll saddle up Salty, and let Princess run alongside. We can explore the beach.
Until Another Day,
Katie Strange
